Mildly OCD

I offered to let my sis borrow two of my necklaces, only to realize it would mess up the balance on my necklace board. I don't think I can let her borrow them unless I find replacements.

I rarely take the tags off of my home décor purchases. This may be due to laziness rather than an actual disorder. But seriously, some things still have tags on them from over a year ago.

I get so annoyed with the cashier at Wal-Mart when after all that effort I put into organizing the groceries on the conveyer belt thingy - cold food, dry food, canned food, non food items, etc. - she then bags it all together? Why would you bag a can of tomato paste with the dental floss? Whyyyy??

Originally this was going to be an outfit post showing off my new white dress, but I just couldn't get in the mood. I am not a model, nor do I aspire to be one. I hate posing for these.
Ok, obviously I like it a little, cause I do it, but I also hate it. Its a love hate. On this day, I hated it, so this was the outcome of our outfit post photo shoot. I think they're my favorite outfit post pictures to date. Seriously.

A few confessions from a new mom

I do not like 9 month old poop. Its grosser than 6 month old poop.

I did not buy all new clothes for my very first baby. 90% of his wardrobe is from Savers.
I buy his toys there too.
$15 for a blinking steering wheel that sings and will lose its appeal after 20 seconds. No.
$3.99 for the same toy because another little person played with it first. Yes.

Ever since Boog has been mobile, he tries to get out of his stroller. I usually buckle him in, but this time I didn't. First mistake. The sis and I were browsing through a store when we stopped to admire... something, I don't remember what it was now. Whatever it was, was captivating enough that I didn't notice my nine month old had managed to wiggle free and fall out of his stroller onto the floor, until I hit him with said stroller. Yep. Shining moment. He was crying, of course, wouldn't you be? But he seemed ok. I picked him up, begged for forgiveness, checked all sides of the head to asses any damage and wiped the dirt from the stroller tire off of his shoulder. All good.
Is there a "mom card"? You know, like a man card, only for moms. If so, mine needs punched.
Its a miracle that the first born child survives adolescence under the care of first time parents.

My new high-low

I am having the time of my life with this little nine month old. He recently started crawling and pulling himself up. Gone are the days of the worm crawl. It is most definitely a lot more work having a mobile child, but it is also the most fun I've had up to this point. When we first brought him home from the hospital, I would hold him in my arms and watch him sleep. It was the greatest feeling. I would worry that as he got older and bigger, moments wouldn't be as sweet, as fun as when he was so tiny in my arms. I can honestly say, I am having more and more fun with every month that passes. He has the best personality! He is such a sweetheart and he loves to laugh. He cries, he has his moments where I pushed naptime a little too far and he makes sure I pay for it, but for the most part, he is the most pleasant, sweet natured little boy I've ever met (yes I'm partial, so what.)

Back to reality

After weeks of rehearsals followed by a pretty incredible vacation to San Diego, its time to get back to the day to day. Its time to get back to laundry. Other stuff too, but mostly laundry.

Our church had a big 4th of July celebration slash production. I was honored to be a part of it.

 

As I get older I have more of an appreciation for the sacrifice it took for us to get what we have here in America. The strength and courage it took to get us here and takes to keep us here. Every year we pay tribute to our military by singing "Step In Time" and having the men and women who have served, or are serving in each branch, stand as we applaud them for their service. It doesn't feel like enough. To see the pride on their face as they stand there while their song is being sung, and to see the pride on the faces of their family as they watch them stand...it'll give you goose bumps. I want to teach my son to have pride in our country. I want to teach him to respect the courageous people who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom. I want to teach him to place his hand over his heart when saying the Pledge of Allegiance. I'm noticing how people don't always do this anymore. I find that sad.

 

Then there was the vacation. Oh how I love a good vacation. We were invited by some very good friends to join them in San Diego as they celebrate...well, a few things. Its been a long ten years for them, and this trip was their reward for a lot of hard work and sacrifice. They asked if we would join them as they celebrate in beautiful San Diego California, and really, who would say no to such an offer?

 

  

The house we stayed at had an incredible view. No seriously. A-mazing.

I don't think B appreciated it as much as he should have. He was busy licking magic marker off of balloons, making himself comfortable in the highchair and trying Spanish rice for the first time. Which he liked.

 

Our first day was Sea World. Normally we wouldn't have spent the money. Brody is only eight months old, and at eight months old, he's fascinated by the doggy door. Why spend money on a theme park? However, the families we vacationed with have kiddos a little older than B, and Sea World was a must! We decided to tag along and I'm so glad we did! It was fun to watch the kids throw their hands in the air every time Shamu came out of the water. Pure joy.

 

 

  

 

It was a successful day at Sea World.

We only went to the beach once while we were in Cali. Boog decidedly did not like it very much. Mostly he didn't like the sand in his face. As a new mom, I'm unaware of potential meltdown situations until they actually happen...like a baby eating dirt, then rubbing it into his eyes.
Good job, mom.

The rest of my time there was spent consoling a traumatized baby.

With this many kids and only a camera timer, getting a shot with everyone looking at the same time was next to impossible. Throwing a shoe in the direction of the camera to get the kids to look was pure genius. Kudos to you for that moment of brilliance, Summer!

 

He's a pretty good vacationer, this guy.

 

I'm looking forward to our next vacation in San Diego...in 3 weeks! Yep! We're going again!

Wedding planning and my new thrift store find

I have a very sweet sister/friend (she is more of a sister than a friend) who is getting married. She is "that" girl. The one that all the boys fall in love with, want to marry, or are just content to stand in her presents drinking in the perfection that is...well, her.

She has the beauty of an exotic supermodel. She's about has high maintenance as a Maytag washer and dryer (remember the commercials? The repair guy with nothing to do?) She has high moral standards, loves the Lord with her whole heart, has a genuine kindness that you don't find much these days, and, well, you guessed it....I hate her.

Jusssst kidding! I love her with my whole heart. I just wish that she would get an enormous zit on her forehead every once in a while. Is that so wrong??

I have the pleasure of planning this beauty's wedding, and I cant tell you how excited I am! This is my thing! I love decorating, planning, making phone calls, finding good deals...
because $15,000 to $25,000 for a wedding?!?! Are you serious? We're in a recession, people!! Or we just came out of one, or we're heading towards another one... I'm not sure. Either way, that is an insane amount of money to spend on a party. I'm aware its the most important day of your life and blah blah blah, but that's just nuts! Sorry to anyone who spent that on your wedding. I don't mean to offend. I'm just cheap.

I say, spend the money on your honeymoon! I heard someone say, or read somewhere, cant remember, that "the happiest people spend their money on experiences, not things." I love that.
There are definitely things you want to spend money on when it comes to your big day, such as photography, video, etc., but there are also a lot of ways you can cut costs.
My opinion: don't spend $1,000 plus on a huge cake that everyone is simply going to shove in their face, digest, and then....well, you know. I can honestly say, I don't remember what the cakes looked like, or tasted like at the last 2 weddings I went to. Sorry if you're reading this and you're one of those people. I'm sure it was a beautiful cake!

I have planned my share of weddings, two to be exact, and managed to keep the budget below $8,000. My plan is to do it again. Now if I could only get the wedding venue coordinators to stop hanging up on me.

And now for my new sweater! You may be asking yourselves "what does this have to do with your post?" to which I would say, "nothing, but I didn't have pictures that related to this post, so why not make it a partial outfit post to show off my latest Goodwill find!" Next you might ask, "why is she wearing that thing in the middle of summer in Arizona?" Well, I had a rehearsal and they keep the sanctuary at a comfy 28 degrees, it seems. Hooray for a reason to wear my new sweater!

Personally, I prefer almonds

 

I started out wanting the hubs to take pictures of my DIY shirt for an outfit post, but when the men in your life are this good looking, the lighting in the parking garage is sweet, and you have a fancy camera that makes the background blurry, you take lots of pictures and post them all!

 

 



  

 

I found my shirt at a thrift store, I liked it, but I didn't know what it meant, and now days you can never be too sure about these things, so I Googled the brand.

Still not sure.

I think its an acorn company.

I do know its a company that dislikes all other nuts.

 

I cut the sleeves off, cut the bottom into strips, and now I have my very own self made, fringy, acorn loving digs!
