Florals and not high waisted shorts

This is a very special weekend...for obvious reasons.
Its Easter. I love Easter.
We dont really have any traditions for it, other than church, of course, and an Easter basket with some chocolate and new pajamas. Yes, pajamas. Don't ask me why, that's just what we do (and toothbrushes in our stockings at Christmas). My mom started this tradition when we were kids and I love it! Who doesn't love a new pair of jammies!
I will do this for my kids...although, I kind of think a little boy wont have the same appreciation for a cute pair of pj's that I had. Unless... I buy superhero pj's!!
Done.

I started to write this post and it was going to be about what Easter means to me, but it turned out to be much longer and more in depth than I expected. How could it not be, its about my Savior.
Following that with pictures of me posing in my back yard just seemed...out of place. So this post will just be a simple outfit post.
Maybe I will post about what Easter means to me, after Easter.

I love the floral thing that's going on right now, its everywhere! It seemed so appropriate for this particular weekend, and who doesn't love cut-off jean shorts. They go with everything!
I have yet to purchase a pair of high waisted jean shorts.

Not like this

Like this

I like the look, but I'm scared. As I pointed out in my last post, I was born in the 80's, so I've done the high waist thing... not really excited about doing it again...but, that's the way fashion goes. Things always come back around (ugh, I'm now old enough to say "I use to wear that when I was younger"). This is why I have a hard time getting rid of things and why the hubs has been moved to the guest room closet.
Kidding... sort of.

I dont match

I grew up in the 80's and early 90's. This was the era of...well, many embarrassing trends, one being that everything was so matchy matchy. Your socks match your shirt and your shorts match your scrunchie.
The best was when you wore 2 or 3 different colors of slouch socks stacked on top of each other to perfectly match your ensemble.
I now realize all it did was give me cankles.

After we got married, the hubs would ask if something he was wearing worked, and now he knows me well enough to know that if his hat is the same color as his shirt, or shorts, its "too matchy matchy" Coordinate, not match. That's what I like.

I'm eclectic, even in my home décor, so I love when things don't match, but go together. I feel like it adds a little texture and makes it more interesting.
(in case you missed it, here is a tour of my home "Welcome to the casa!")

I confess, I'm still trying to do that with my clothes. I love clothes that coordinate, but don't match. Clothes that have texture (mostly I love being comfortable)
But again, I grew up matching everything, so its a little hard for me to let go of that sometimes.
However, I kind of want to live in this skirt lately and this is one of my favorite shirts...
they don't match... at all...but I liked it and I was comfortable.
I'm pretty sure screen print/vintage t's go with anything and so do stripes, so why not put them together.

(I don't know one single song by Lynyrd Skynyrd...I'm a "poser"
Pretending to be more hardcore than I really am =)

Rock on!!!

?

Welcome to the casa!

Well, here it is, as requested, a tour of my home!
I'm excited to show it to you, but I have an older camera so the pictures aren't the best.
I apologize in advance =)

If I could choose to do anything for a living, it would be decorating homes.
I have very eclectic taste, so I like things that don't match, I like texture, I love a room that has character and feels lived in.
I also love affordable design, so I love the diy Network, Pinterest and spray paint =)
My biggest problem is (I have the same problem with my decorating as I do with my clothes) I gravitate towards neutrals.

We took out the awesome (not so awesome at all) teal carpet that was in the house when the hubs bought it, and replaced it with dark stained concrete, which we did (mostly) ourselves! I absolutely love it and its cheap. Score!

So, here is my eclectic, very neutral, home that I love so much.

This is the room we spend most of our time in. I love this room.

Birds: ugly porcelain knick knacks from Savers, spray painted white
Table: refurbished craigslist find

This has become a little bit of a catch-all space. I'll figure out what to do with it...one of these days.
The hubs keeps asking what ceFuB (see-fub) means. Nothing! I just like how it looks.
Ugh, men.
Fun fact: the "lantern" on the left, is actually the cage to an old bug zapper.
Screw a drawer knob to the top, stick a candle inside, and voila!
(yes, I cleaned the bug guts off first)

Dining area...in case that wasn't obvious =)

This is the front living room. I love this room, but we don't use it much. I've never liked houses with two living rooms for this reason.
All of the picture frames on the coffee table are waiting for me to find a home for them somewhere on our walls.

This is the hubs work space/office area/place to put his collection of football helmets.
I really love this space, but it doesn't photograph well...or its my old camera and lack of photography skills...

 Bedroom!
I'm still working on this room, but I do love it. I spent a lot of time in here (and the floor next to the toilet) during my first trimester. Darn that morning sickness!

I would like to eventually put white stripes on this wall. My intention was not for the headboard to match perfectly with the walls (yep, there's a headboard there...see it now?) Oops.

I wanted to show this because I'm so excited about it!!
I got the idea off of Pinterest. I was SO sick of my scarves being in my closet, tucked in with my winter hats, and anywhere else I could think to shove them. Now, they're all together and easy to get to! I bought the over the door hanger at Ross for about $8. I have another one hanging on the inside of my entryway closet door for purses, scarves, hats, etc.

 My jewelry.
Bracelet holders: coffee mug racks from savers, spray painted white.

Guest bathroom/B's bathroom
Eventually we will update the bathrooms and kitchen. The plan is that I will paint the kitchen cupboards and bathroom cabinets myself... I'll be sure and write about that whole experience so you can all have a good laugh!

Well, that's it! Boog was sleeping in his room when I was taking pictures, and the rest of the rooms, bathrooms and especially kitchen, are not blog worthy at this time.
I hope you enjoyed the tour!

I'm off to B's swim lesson!!!

Happy Tuesday!

stripes and denim

This has been a fun week.
On Tuesday I took Boog to his very first swim lesson. He's a natural!
I think Tuesdays are going to be our new favorite day of the week.
Sorry Friday.

That night I met with one of my closest friends. We both have kiddos now, so I'm afraid time has gotten away from us, and we have not done a very good job at staying in touch.
I hate that.
She has two little girls, one is 3 and the other is 14 months.
For those of you who are like I was before I had kids, that's one year and two months =)
I always laugh at the parents who still refer to their child's age by month and the kid is almost 7 years old.
Please, I don't want to have to do the math.

Thank God for Google and their genius math skills.

I am 31 years old...
    or  382 months old
    or  1,662 weeks old
    or  11,636 days old

Never mind. I hate Google.

As I was saying, her daughters are adorable, but for some reason, B didn't particularly like the little one, Aubrey. Every time she would make a loud noise, he would start bawling!
Google said this is common... Is this common??
He did the same thing at swim lessons when we had him face to face with a little girl his age. She didn't make a sound, but out of nowhere he started crying like someone spit in his formula!
I'm guessing this is just a weird phase he will grow out of and in 12 years I'll be wishing he would cry whenever he sees a girl.

I love weekends because the hubs doesn't have to get up and go to work. He gets to hang out with us!
We also have an amazing service at our church this Sunday to kick off Easter.
You can find more info about it here. I recommend it.

Its going to be a good weekend!

Bulk Trash Day

So, how bad is my writers block?

I was going to write a Product Review post and give a list of some of my favorite things as of late, because there are times when I'm using something and I'm so in love with it that I want to tell everyone about it!
Then I think, "I should write a product review post and put this in it", but today, none of those things are coming to mind, so I'm going to write about bulk trash instead.

I know, hard to contain the excitement, right?
Well, I wont keep you waiting any longer.

Today Boog and I went for a walk. Talk about the ultimate in multitasking!
I put on my running shoes and a tank top, threw B in his stroller/car seat, stuck a leash on the dog and what do you have? Exercise, a tan, walking the dog AND putting the baby to sleep, ALL AT ONCE!
There should be a certificate, or an award for this kind of multitasking.

As I'm walking I see something strange tucked in between some bushes in the neighbors yard.

What is it?

Some kind of strange palm tree, a bush, a giant alien weed????
 (oh the drama!!)

nope... its a large, old, ugly TV...in their front yard....

And people call me a redneck.

Its ok, the guy down the street has a toilet out front.

Lovely.

There are just some things I would take to the dump myself in order to avoid advertising it to the whole neighborhood.

Anyway, I'm not going to lie, bulk trash week is kind of exciting for me (not because I refurbish toilets...I don't...yet).

I'm a trash picker.

The sad thing is, the only trash I wanted was some chairs this guy threw out, but I wanted to wait until it was less...light out.

...but I was too late. Someone already snatched up the good ones and left this one behind because it was too beat up.

Darn those other trash pickers!!! Getting all the good stuff before me.
Next time I wont wait until dark to loot someone's crap, I'll just grab it when I see it!
In broad daylight!
Yeah, I'm hardcore like that.
Wouldn't want to miss out again.
I had plans for those chairs!!

Moving on.

There was really nothing else of value (still need to search "toilet refurbishing ideas" on Pinterest) just a lot of yard cleanup stuff

Yes, I actually walked my neighborhood taking pictures of peoples trash.
This is the fabulous life I lead.
Don't hate.

This guy wins for most crap collected...

HOLY MOLY!!!!

This is how fascinated Boog was with today's blog post

Quitter.

Don't you just love those yummy neck rolls???

Notice how I buckled him in for this stroll through the treacherous terrain that is "Scarlett Canyon" (insert dramatic dare devilish music here)...

Better safe than rolling down the sidewalk with mom chasing behind because she forgot to put the break on when taking pictures of the neighbors junk.

Happy Monday everyone!!!

A day in the life of this stay at home mom...

I'm new at the whole stay at home mom thing.
I've always wanted to do this for a living.
I'm blessed that I am able to.

Most days vary.
I have a routine as far as B's schedule - naps, feedings, etc. But what we do in between all of those things, changes every day. Some days we meet other moms for a walk around a park. I clean. I'm learning how to cook, so that's been...interesting. We go grocery shopping. We go to the gym 3 times a week...or at least wear my workout clothes so it looks like I did,
and some days I do laundry...
who am I kidding...
I do laundry every day.

Can someone tell me how one little human can create SO. MUCH. LAUNDRY???

This is just from yesterday... I'm in amazement at this.

I've realized that being a stay at home mom requires a little bit of self motivation. I don't have a boss telling me what I need to do for the day, I have to figure it out on my own or nothing will get done.

Well, technically I do have a boss. He's quite tiny, he smells like cheese by the end of the day because he spits up more food than he eats (neck cheese!), he requires a feeding every 3 to 4 hours, a diaper change and a couple razz's on his belly during wardrobe changes.

My old boss did not require any of these...and he did no smell like cheese.

Aside from all of the mom stuff, I have to plan out my day, or it will pass, I will have been busy, but somehow nothing got done.
Weird.
Annoying.

So the night before, I plan out my next day.

Last night I decided today was going to be a fun day.
No cleaning, no cooking, no worrying about "the schedule"
Just fun stuff.

So Boog and I met the hubs for lunch. He works kind of far, so this is a rare treat.
After that, Boog and I did a little shopping at the mall, had some formula, spit most of it up, then it was time to head home for at least one good nap in the crib.

While the boss slept, I pulled out frames and ordered prints from Costco.com

so the new frames can be filled and I can start hanging things like this...

 ...all over our walls.

Another project, for another day.

Today is especially special because uncle Mick is going to babysit while the hubs and I have a date night!

I do love date night.

That was today. Today was good to us.

Five things about me...

I was challenged by //Kerri// to write this post.
I'm supposed to tell you five things about me that you may or may not know.

Challenge accepted.

I will try to make them interesting....oh the pressure.....hmmm.....

Ok, I think I have some to start with. What you don't know is this post probably took me 3 hours to finish. Its like when someone asks me what my favorite song is, or my favorite movie...ITS TOO MUCH PRESSURE!!!

Five things about me:

1. My almost 5 month old laughs at me when I sing.
I've always been a little insecure about my voice...this just solidifies my insecurities.

2. I would walk around barefoot everyday, everywhere, if it were socially acceptable...except in public restrooms. I would carry slippers for such occasions.

3. I use to work construction.
I have poured many a concrete slabs, laid block, installed cultured stone fireplaces, I've even shingled a roof... Who's a redneck? THIS GIRL!

4. I would love to visit Thailand someday.

5. My thumbs are double jointed, so I can turn them around backwards to wear the tips of my thumb is facing my wrist. Sexy!! Its how I got my husband.

Now I challenge Kimberly Bonham (who may have already been challenged), Dan, Miss (Um, I cant find her blog!) and Christina Ritter.

Another thrifted outfit...mostly

While I wait for B to wake up from his nap, I thought I would take some pictures of my outfit from last night.

I love the zipper on the back of this shirt. It makes the shirt!
But, I didn't want this to be an X-Large picture of my rear =)

What pose should I do next? This is getting boring.

I know, I'll climb the wall. That will be a good one.

Look who woke up from his nap just in time to make it in my outfit post!
